Remembering Melody Chadamoyo: A Life of Connection, Courage and Service
The European YWCA mourns the loss of Melody Chadamoyo, a remarkable woman whose life was shaped by a deep commitment to women, faith, relationships, inclusion and human connection.
Originally from Zimbabwe and based in Ireland, Melody brought many different experiences and perspectives to everything she did. She served as Treasurer on the Board of the European YWCA, contributing her wisdom, dedication and thoughtful leadership to our movement. Melody had also served as a Board director and trustee of YWCA Ireland since 2019, leading with courage, conviction and compassion while helping to lay the foundations for a new era of its pioneering mission.
Beyond her work with the YWCA, Melody devoted much of her life to supporting and empowering women. She was a relationship coach, speaker and author, and founded the Heart Passion Institute, where she worked with women on confidence, self-love, personal growth and meaningful relationships. Her work was rooted in the belief that genuine connection begins with knowing and valuing oneself.
Her own life experiences were an important part of this work. In her book Why Self-love is the Key to True Love, published in 2020, Melody reflected openly on love, marriage, loss, heartbreak and self-discovery. Following the death of her husband, she drew on her own experience of grief and healing to support other women navigating difficult moments in their lives.
Melody’s commitment to creating spaces where people could feel seen and valued also extended into her professional and academic work. At TU Dublin, she contributed to work around equality, diversity and inclusion, including research on developing more inclusive academic libraries. Her work explored how institutions can better respond to the experiences and needs of diverse communities.
She was also a member of the SoloSIRENs Collective and took part in performances and conversations exploring identity, relationships, community and social change. Across these different areas of her life, a common thread can be seen: Melody believed in the power of connection and in the possibility of creating spaces where people could grow, heal and belong.
But for those of us who served alongside Melody on the European YWCA Board, these achievements tell only part of her story.
We remember her first and foremost as a warm, kind and genuine person. She was wise and kind-hearted, courageous and deeply dedicated. She was also a true and loyal friend. Even during difficult times, she carried hope and continued to give herself to others.
We feel incredibly fortunate to have known her and to have shared part of our YWCA journey with her. Her commitment to serving others, her belief in women and her ability to bring humanity and kindness into the spaces she entered will remain part of the legacy she leaves behind.
Melody will be deeply missed by all of us. We hold her daughter, her sister, her mother and all those who loved her in our thoughts, prayers and hearts. And we will remember with gratitude the gift of having walked alongside her for a part of her journey.
May you rest gently, dear Melody. You will always be remembered with love, gratitude and admiration.
